About the event

Join us for an impactful workshop series for Gender and Sexuality Alliance Faculty Leaders! This virtual workshop series will help you build community with other GSA Faculty Leaders, learn tips on how to structure your GSA, work through challenges together, and share resources.

This series is for anyone who is a faculty leader of their school's GSA. It doesn't matter if this will be your first year, or if you've been doing this for 20 years. All grade levels and experiences levels welcome!

The workshop series is completely virtual and will take place on Zoom. All of the workshops take place on Saturdays from 1:00-3:00 pm EST (they are all 2 hours each with breaks built in). They happen once per month from September to November.

Workshop dates -

Saturday, September 28th (1-3 pm EST) Saturday, October 26th (1-3 pm EST) Saturday, November 23rd (1-3 pm EST)

Professional development certificates will be issued at the end of the workshop series for participants who participate in all workshops from September - November.

Tiered payment options available for greater access. Please reference the Green Bottle sliding scale system to see where you fall on the three tiers. If you have access to professional development funds from your school, please select tier 3. If cost is prohibitive, please reach out to empoweredforequity@gmail.com to discuss options.

Refunds will not be issued - so please ensure you can commit to the entire workshop series if you sign up!

About the facilitators -

SJ Janjua (they/them) is the founder of Empowered for Equity Consulting, where they use their passion and expertise for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to help equip others with tools to create inclusion. SJ is a proud queer/trans/nonbinary person who uses their lived experience and expertise to guide their work with schools, organizations, and parents of LGBTQ+ youth. They spent 5 years teaching in public schools before leaving the classroom to obtain their master’s degree in International Education. During their work at a non-profit afterschool program, they began their formalized Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging work in the education space. They launched their consulting business in 2023, and have had the pleasure of working with incredible schools, organizations, and groups, such as: PFLAG, The Arizona Adverse Childhood Experiences Consortium, National Partnership for Educational Access, Singapore American School, Ellucian, Association for Independent Maryland Schools, among others!

Madi Bourdon (she/they) is an educator, author, and advocate fostering the well-being of Queer youth and allies through inclusive spaces, mentorship, and empowerment by cultivating a healthy and affirmed sense of belonging. Madi is currently an elementary school counselor in Portland, and serves as the American School Counselor Association’s DEI LGBTQ+ Committee Lead. Their passion for supporting youth stemmed from the joy she has felt leading her school’s 4th and 5th grade GSA. This year Madi published her first book, “A Kids Book about Chosen Family” in part dedicated to her GSA kids, and was featured in Education Week and Rethinking Schools.
