Hello

My name is SJ Janjua!

SJ Janjua (they/them) is a passionate DEIB leader and practitioner in the Baltimore area who brings experience from their 10+ years of work dedicated to ensuring the equity of schools and non-profit organizations. After graduating college from Oklahoma State University with their bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education - English, they spent several years teaching at the high school level in Oklahoma, Costa Rica, and Texas. Throughout their years in the classroom, they became even more aware of how important it is to create and foster spaces for all kids to grow and learn.

In 2017, SJ left the classroom and embarked on obtaining their master’s degree in International Education at George Washington University. During this time, they wore many hats in the field of education as a teacher trainer, a classroom observer and evaluator, and as a curriculum developer. Post-graduation they spent time working in development in the non-profit sector and delved deeply into formal Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging work. They have led countless trainings for staff at all levels on topics from inclusive management to supporting LGBTQ+ students in out of school time programs. They are not only extremely passionate about making the world a more equitable place for everybody, but the teacher in them loves to watch people discover their own passion for this work.

SJ is a loud and proud, transgender non-binary queer person. They dedicate their time and energy outside of work to a number of organizations, they previously held a board member position at Trans Lifeline and they volunteered on the DEIBA committee at the Transformations Project. They were also an inaugural member of the Global Council for Community Centric Fundraising.

SJ currently lives in Baltimore with their partner and two rescue dogs, Maple and Wilfredo. They enjoy participating in local advocacy work, hiking, spoiling their dogs, writing poetry, organizing community meet ups, birding, front porch sittin, and lifting weights.

SJ hopes to partner with your organization, school, or group to help you cultivate the tools necessary to make your world empowered for equity.
